A man called 911 on Friday, January 19, 2024 to report he had received Facebook messages from a female friend who said she was being attacked in the area of Grandma Lane and Cluff Ranch Rd. The fake messages even identified the alleged attacker. At one point the reporting party said the alleged victim was being dragged behind a house and beaten.
Deputies combed the area and never found any signs of disturbances. They contacted the man who was named as the attacker in the fraudulent messages. He allowed deputies to search his home but the alleged victim was not found.
Law enforcement gave up the search after about 45 minutes. Several hours later, the alleged victim called the Sheriff’s department and said that her sister told her she heard her name on the scanner. She asked if she was in some kind of trouble. An officer told her about the Facebook posts and their efforts to locate her. The woman said that she had seen officers patrolling the area when she was on her way to work but had no idea that they were looking for her. She said that she was at work and everything was fine. She was apparently aware that someone had made a fake profile in her name and had been messaging her friends. She said she would report any further incidents.
