PIMA — Pima Unified School Superintendent, Sean Rickert, confirmed Monday that one of the varsity football players had tested positive for COVID-19.
“The Graham County Health Department came to the school today and interviewed our football team,” Rickert said. ” They determined that half of our varsity team needed to be quarantined for 14 days,” he added.
The exact date that the 14 day quarantine starts hasn’t been determined yet according to Rickert but he said it is “highly likely” the next two varsity football games will be canceled. The team is scheduled to play in St. Johns on October 9th and host Benson on October 16th.
Pima hosted Thatcher on Friday night to open the season. Thatcher High Principal Ryan Conrad said that the Graham County Health Department visited with the football team and staff today and “we won’t be quarantined at this time.” Thatcher will host Snowflake on October 9th.
“I would like to ask anybody who is quarantined in Pima Unified to take this 14 day timeline seriously,” said Rickert. “If you do, we can get back on schedule. If not, this could go on for much longer than 14 days,” he concluded.
