1A,2A,3A baseball and softball day 1 roundup

Friday was a busy day for Gila valley softball and baseball teams as the the postseason started for most of the divisions.

1A baseball

#15 Fort Thomas fought hard and kept the game close early but the #2 Mogollon Mustangs proved to be too much as they downed the Apaches 15-1 in the opening round. The Apaches finish the season 7-12.

All of the higher seeds moved on in 1A baseball except for #9 Mohave Accelerated upset #8 Hayden, 9-1.

2A baseball

The #4 Thatcher Eagles made quick work of #13 St. Augustine 11-0 behind pitcher Jason Carrasco. The Eagles will face off with #5 Camp Verde at 11am on Saturday at the Goodyear Sports Complex. The Cowboys knocked off Miami 10-4.

#10 Morenci pulled off the mild upset over #7 Benson 4-2. The Wildcats will get #2 Phoenix Christian at 11am Saturday at the Goodyear Sports Complex.

3A baseball

#15 Safford Bulldogs came up short against #2 American Leadership Academy Patriots, 3-1. The Bulldogs trailed 3-0 after 3 innings and in the 5th had runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs and pushed across their lone run. Safford finishes their season with a 14-14 record.

2A softball

The #10 Thatcher Lady Eagles used a huge rally to upset #7 Northland Prep 11-7 in 9 innings. Thatcher trailed 7-4 before rolling up 7 unanswered runs to move into Saturday’s 9am game against #2 Trivium Prep at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex. Trivium Prep beat Pima by the score of 6-1.

#4 Morenci got a big 6-4 win over Round Valley to move into Saturday morning’s 9am game against #5 San Manuel.
