9 out 10 locals hospitalized for COVID-19 are unvaccinated

SAFFORD — Chances of hospitalization due to coronavirus is on the rise again for the unvaccinated.

Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center reported Wednesday 94.66 percent of the people hospitalized for COVID-19 since Sept. 1 are unvaccinated.

Meanwhile the average daily number of patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 continues to decline, now at seven over the past 14 days.

Graham County Health Department reported another 98 new positive cases and two deaths over the past five days.

That brings the number of new cases in October thus far to 222 and 10 deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic, 7,175 residents have tested positive and 111 people have died due to COVID-19.

Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center, in partnership with the United Way of Greenlee Counties, is offering free drive-up COVID-19 testing at the hospital’s Copper Mountain Clinic.

Free drive-up testing takes place Monday through Friday, from 1-7 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Graham County continues to offer free vaccinations for anyone over the age of 12 at the vaccination clinic on Main Street at Safford.
