8-man football kicks off season tonight

Football season kicks off tonight in Southeastern Arizona as the Duncan Wildkats will host the Fort Thomas Apaches. There are 8 eight-man games on the slate tonight around Arizona. The 2A and 3A kickoff their season next week.

Duncan leads the all-time series between the two schools 11-8. The two teams first played in 1937 then again in 1938 but didn’t play each other again until 2003, according to the archives.

Fort Thomas won last year’s meeting 44-22 to finish their Covid shortened season 1-3.  Duncan finished last year 1-5.

Both teams are looking to rebound behind a good core of returning starters.

For the Apaches they will rely on Aaron Beavers, Jaren McCabe, Tyler Black, Elijah Nozie, Tommy Hinton, Carmello Robertson, Jathan Wilson and Tashon Gambler to carry this team this season.

The Duncan Wildkats are excited to be on the field tonight after already sitting through a Covid quarantine this season. They will call on the speed of Sophomore Carson Potter on the ground and the size and strength of Austin Bigler in the passing game.

You can hear all of the live action on KATO 1230 AM starting at 7pm tonight or online by clicking here.
