SAFFORD — A new group focused on protecting waterways is providing grant money to the Gila Watershed Partnership.
GWP announced it is receiving more than $36,000 from the 4Rivers Fund, an endowment established by Colorado-based Forever Our Rivers Foundation.
“We are incredibly grateful to Forever Our Rivers and look forward to working with them in the future,” GWP wrote on its social media.
The funds will be used to continue GWP’s continuing effort to restore and protect the Gila River through weed management and irrigation, via the hiring of an additional intern and funding the current group of interns through the summer.
The other rivers supported by the 4Rivers Fund are the Dolores River in Colorado and Utah, the Escalante River in Utah and the Verde River in Arizona.
