SAFFORD — On Monday, the Graham County Board of Supervisors unanimously took the first step in the development of more housing in the area.

The board rezoned 34.1 acres of land south of Pima from general land use (A) to residential manufactured home (R-MH).

“I’m excited to see something like that down there,” said Supervisor John Howard. “It gives us a little better affordable housing to our community. That’s big right now, given the need.”

Tucson-based developer Paul Charette told the board that, with the rezoning in place, he will begin the process of deciding what type of house to put in.

“We’re not sure if whether we’re going to do an RV park or a manufactured-home subdivision at this point in time,” he said.

Graham County Planning and Zoning Director Steve McGaughey said the parcel, located on Cluff Ranch Road, borders the town of Pima to the north and east; however the town is not in a position to annex the land, nor is it able to provide sewer service at this time.
