2A State Championship Football game moved to Safford High

PHOENIX — The Arizona Interscholastic Association announced today that the 2A Conference along with the administrations of Pima and Morenci High Schools have agreed to move the 2022 2A State Football Championship game to Safford High School.

The 2A Conference championship football game will officially be played at Safford High School on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. This is also a change in kickoff time, as it was originally slated for 2 p.m. when the game was scheduled to be played at Desert Vista High School.

With top-ranked Pima and second-seeded Morenci both hailing from eastern Arizona, there was school and community support to host the game in a regional location that minimized travel for participants and fans.

The 3A championship game between Eastmark and Thatcher will be played as originally scheduled on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Desert Vista.
