Lemons and Lemonade on Main Street

June 10th-11gh, the Lemons and Lemonade project lit up the Safford Main Street with bright colors and warm smiles. This year’s Lemons and Lemonade project benefitted the Mount Graham Hospice. Lemonade stands were set up outside stores, and they even had one for Chase Bank and Vista Recycling.
This was the fourth annual event of the Lemons and Lemonade project. Working with the Boys and Girls Club and the local 4H Club, the Lemons and Lemonade group has been collecting funds all year to donate to Hospice.
Selling the lemonade outside their shops, the shop owners also sold their excess inventory at discounted prices. They called these discounted items, “Lemons.” The actual lemonade was donated by Mary Bingham. Every part of the lemonade process was donated so that the money earned could be donated to Hospice.
Kristi Johnson, the woman in charge of the Lemons and Lemonade benefit stated, “Each year we do something different.” In 2015, the money collected through the Lemons and Lemonade event went to benefit the Leo Club. In case some of you don’t know, the Leo Club is the junior Lions Club, and they give the gas tickets to family who have patients in the hospital with cancer.
The lemonade was a delicious thirst-quencher in the heat of early June. Good work everyone, and we hope to see you again next year.
