SAFFORD — The Boys and Girls Club of the Gila Valley is taking inspiration from literature for the area’s newest holiday event — the Yule Ball.
The inaugural Yule Ball will take place Saturday, Dec. 16, from 6 p.m. to midnight, at the club on 7th Avenue, across from the Safford Library.
Boys and Girls Club CEO Brittany Dean said the family-friendly event is inspired by “Harry Potter.”
“In ‘Goblet of Fire,’ they have this Christmas ball, and it’s just a lot of fun,” she said. “I’m super excited to bring that here to the Gila Valley.”
The all-ages event will feature live music and dancing, food and mocktails (non-alcoholic drinks), a photo booth and raffles. Plus there will be prizes for the best dressed and best dancer. The first 100 guests will receive a free wand.
Tickets to the formal event are $40 for those 18 and older, $15 for ages 12-18, and free for those under 12 and club members. The event serves as a fund-raiser for the club.
“We just want to be community partners, and show the community that we’re doing our part in serving the youth. I’m really excited for next year; we have a lot of plans for our members,” Dean said. “We recently gave out 125 bikes to all our club members as a Christmas present. It came with helmets, it came with little flashlights for the front, and a lock for their bike.”
The bikes and accessories were donated to the Boys and Girls Club of the Gila Valley by El Tour de Tucson cycling event, which also donated bikes to Boys and Girls Clubs in Tucson, Nogales, Bisbee and Sierra Vista.
