Hiking Club heading to Superior

SAFFORD — The Gila Valley Hiking Club is ready to get back on the trail.

After missing the last hike due to snow on Mount Graham, the club going a little farther afield for the next outing — hiking the Legends of Superior Trail on Saturday, Dec. 16.

The hike will follow the old alignment of U.S. Highway 60, from the lower portion of Queen Creek Canyon to Claypool Tunnel.

The hike is 4.5 miles round trip on fairly level terrain. The trailhead is accessible by any vehicle.

Hikers should bring sunscreen, a hat, plenty of water and wear good walking shoes. Following previous club hikes in the area, many hikers dined at Los Hermanos Mexican Restaurant, but hikers may instead bring a sack lunch.

Participants are asked to meet at Pima Town Hall at 7:30 a.m. to carpool to the trailhead.
