PHOENIX — State Treasurer Kimberly Yee announced Monday her intention to run for governor in 2022.

“I have seen overwhelming support for me to consider this very seriously. I love our great state — I was born and raised in Arizona — I want to continue to see its success,” Yee told Gila Valley Central.

In a video announcing her campaign, Yee echoed much of former President Trump’s dogma, saying, “Our way of life is under attack by the corrupt press, reckless corporate leaders and politicians who put socialist ideals over people, our freedom of speech and our elections.”

She said she will “continue President Trump’s fight to secure our southern border,” adding that the state’s shared border with California also needs scrutiny.

“I’ve seen firsthand what socialist policies have done to states like California,” she said.

Yee, a Republican, is the third person to officially announce a candidacy for governor. William Pounds is running on the Independent-Green Party ticket, while Marco Lopez is running as a Democrat.

Incumbent Gov. Doug Ducey is prevented from seeking re-election due to term limits.
