Woodbury Fire consumes 123,000 acres, 53% contained

The Woodbury fire burning in the Superstition Mountain area has consumed 123,404 acres as of this morning. There are 703 firefighters working the fire. It appears that fire investigators can’t determine whether the fire was caused by human carelessness or natural causes.

On Tuesday, the Gila County Sheriff’s Department lifted the evacuation order for Roosevelt area residents.

The Superstition wilderness and adjacent campgrounds remain closed along State Highway 188, east of Roosevelt Dam. The Tonto National Monument is also closed. Stage 1 fire restrictions remain in place for the Tonto National Forest.
