GRAHAM COUNTY — For all the bluster from Wednesday evening’s storm, things could be a great deal worse in the Gila Valley.
Town of Thatcher reports the strong winds and rain hit Daley Estates and Reay Lane the hardest, pushing debris and mud into the roadways. Town officials are asking motorists to avoid the areas until cleanup efforts are complete.
In Pima, town officials said it was the sewer system that took the brunt of the damage and crews are working on making repairs as quickly as possible. Town officials also said residents may leave debris from their properties on the curb, and town crews will pick up the debris starting Monday.
Graham County crews worked through the evening to clear roadways in the unincorporated areas, with Central seeing the greatest impact from the storm.
And in Safford, the golf course has been temporarily closed due to the impact of a large amount of running water moving through the area.
According to the University of Arizona Meteorological Summary, the Gila Valley received seven-tenths of an inch of rain in the storm and winds gusted upward of 69 miles an hour.
