SAN CARLOS — The White Tail fire on the San Carlos Apache Reservation continues to burn, but firefighters are making headway against two other wildfires.
As of Monday, the White Tail fire, east of White Tail Springs, is at 857 acres and is in steep, rugged, rocky terrain. The fire is 30-percent contained, and firefighters are concentrating on the north and northeast of the fire.
The Tribe announced that Hilltop, Point of Pines and Malay Gap forest management units, and Sceneca Lake are closed as a result of the fire.
The fire was discovered June 20 and started from lightning.
The Yellowjacket fire, south of Yellowjacket Tank, was also started by lightning on June 26. The fire is at 18.9 acres and 75-percent contained.
Firefighters are focusing on hotspots on the interior of the fire.
The latest wildfire was the Field fire, southwest of Belvado Park.
The fire started June 28 and was human caused. It reached a peak size of 11 acres before full containment was achieved via helicopter water bucket drops.
