Warrant scam being tried in Graham County

GRAHAM COUNTY — At least three people have notified Graham County Sheriff’s Office that the “warrant scam” is being attempted again.

The scammer i claiming to a Sheriff’s lieutenant, calling potential victims to tell them they did not show up for jury duty and a warrant for their arrest has been issued. However, if the victims would transfer a “cash bond,” the warrants would be dismissed.

Sheriff P.J. Allred said the public will know this is a scam because his agency does not make demands for funds.

“They are not going to receive a phone call from the Sheriff’s Office, or even from the courts, telling them that if they send this amount of money, that things will be quashed,” Allred said.

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office suggests placing phone numbers on the Do Not Call registry, at 888-382-1222, to stop unsolicited calls. The office also says do not respond to any questions or requests for financial or personal information, disconnect and immediately contact law enforcement to report the type of scam and the number.
