Voter registration holds in Graham, drops in Greenlee

PHOENIX — Despite coming off a Presidential Preference election in March, and three months until the Primary Election in July, voter registration in Graham is unchanged.

That’s according to data released Friday by the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office.

The number of registered voters in Graham County climbed by just one between January and April, to 20,209.

Republicans make up the majority of Graham County’s voters, at 10,140, down 28 from January; followed by independents at 5,474, up 128; and Democrats at 4,396, down 105.

In Greenlee County, the number of registered voters fell by 5.4 percent between January and April, to 4,529.

Again, Republicans are the dominant group of voters, at 1,718, down 72 from January; followed by independents at 1,411, down 103; and Democrats at 1,319, down 79.

Cochise County, which shares both state Legislative and Congressional districts with Graham and Greenlee counties, saw an increase in the number of voters, growing by six-tenths of 1 percent to 76,131.

Statewide, the voter rolls declined by 1 percent, to 4 million. Republicans showed the only growth, increasing by almost 17,000. Meanwhile Democrats dropped by almost 20,000 voters, while independents saw a drop of slightly more than 40,000.
