SAFFORD — Gila Valley Samaritan Home is seeking volunteers to help make Thanksgiving a little brighter for the homeless.

Samaritan Home is asking for help to build and pack food boxes for the area’s unhoused. Each box will include canned ham, vegetable beef soup, fruit cups and other items, as well as a can opener.

The packing will take place Saturday, Nov. 23, starting at 9 a.m. Distribution to the homeless will take place at 1 p.m.

Gila Valley Samaritan Home is located at 114 E. Highway 70 in Safford, and provides the homeless with a place to shower, wash clothes, get a fresh meal, get out of the heat or cold, and obtain information about available services.

Samaritan Home has also helped obtain temporary housing for those who became unhoused due to a loss of job or change in the family’s situation, and are waiting for the first paychecks from a new job.
