Velma Talley Kight was born on December 2, 1935, to the parents of James Eskew Talley and Agatha Adams Talley. She was born in Kimball, Graham Arizona. She grew up Across the River on the family farm until she was fourteen. Then her family moved to Safford. She attended school from first grade through her High School graduation in Safford, Arizona. After graduating she attended Cosmetology School and later earned her instructor’s license.
Velma married the love of her life, Lee Boyce Kight in 1955. They made their home in Thatcher, Arizona where they lived the rest of their lives. They belonged to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in many different callings.
She leaves behind: her three children, Krisanne Kight Hoopes (Fred), Kevin Lee Kight (Debi), and Jamie Ellen Kight Taylor (Wesley); Twelve grandchildren; and twenty-five great- grandchildren.
Velma passed away at her daughter’s residence in Mesa, on February 4, 2024. She was reunited with her beloved husband, Lee Boyce Kight, who preceded her in January of 2009.
Funeral services for Velma were conducted Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Thatcher Stake Center by Bishop Preston Alder of the Thatcher Seventh Ward. Concluding services followed in the Graham Cemetery.
