Vaccination required for San Carlos Apache employment

SAN CARLOS — The San Carlos Apache Tribal Council voted to make COVID-19 vaccinations mandatory for continued employment.

All employees must have proof of vaccination by Sept. 25. Exceptions will be made for religious belief or a medical condition that precludes vaccination.

Tribal officials said there has been a 187-percent increase in coronavirus cases on the reservation since June 1. As of Aug. 11, there were 26 active cases and nine hospitalized.

Currently, more than 1,000 tribal members remain unvaccinated.
