TUCSON, Ariz. – Border Patrol agents arrested two male foreign nationals who were previously convicted for sex crimes against children during separate weekend incidents, southwest of Tucson.
Ajo Station agents arrested Juan Hernandez-Arnas, a 28-year-old Mexican national, Friday night east of Lukeville. During a subsequent fingerprint and criminal records check, agents discovered Hernendez was convicted in 2012 for “Lewd or Lascivious Acts with a Child
under 14 years old” in Bakersfield, California, and sentenced to six years in prison.
Saturday afternoon, Tucson Station agents arrested 26-year-old Yelson Banegas-Barahona from Honduras. During a records check, agents
discovered he was convicted in 2010 for a sex offense against a child in Roswell, Georgia; securing him a five-year prison sentence.
All persons apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure illegal immigrants with criminal histories are positively identified.
