Two women in custody on suspicion of mail theft

YORK — Two Silver City, N.M., women are facing drug and mail theft charges.

Greenlee County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the possible mail thefts and deputies spotted the suspected vehicle York area. After a traffic stop, deputies found multiple pieces of mail and packages in the vehicle, as well as what is described as a “substantial” amount of cash.

A K-9 unit also alerted to the possibility of drugs in the vehicle, and methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle.

Brenda L. Romero and Ismelda T. Dominguez were taken into custody and booked into Greenlee County Jail.

Deputies are working with the U.S. Postal Service and the state postal inspector in investigating the case, and officials are canvassing homes along State Route 75 to determine how much mail has been stolen.
