Two tries at passing a counterfeit bill

SAFFORD — Two attempts to pass a counterfeit bill were made at the same store, using the same unsuccessful method.

A clerk at the store said a man attempted to purchase some sodas and cigarettes with an obviously fake $100 bill, which had Asian foreign language writing on the reverse. When that was pointed out to the man, he said he had to call his boss and left the store without the items.

Just moments later a woman walked in and attempted to buy the same items with the same bill. When the clerk again pointed out the counterfeit bill, the woman reportedly said, “That’s weird,” and left without the items.

Safford Police reviewed the store’s security footage and reports indicate officers identified the subjects and were attempting to contact them.
