Treadway fire has burned 8400 acres

Firefighters continue to fight the #TreadwayFire, which has now consumed about 8,400 acres. Recent rains helped a little, but the north and northeast sides of the fire continue to remain very active due to hot and windy conditions. Erratic winds pushed the fire over containment lines on the north and northeast sides near Slaughter Mountain.

The fire is burning through grass and brush within rugged terrain and has burned through State Trust and BLM lands along with tribal lands within the San Carlos Reservation. Along the northwest side, aircraft is being used to help with suppression efforts as that side is too rugged and remote for crews to safely engage. Along the north/northeast side, crews are working to pick up the slop over and are making good progress. On the the southern side firefighters continue to improve containment line to ensure stability in the wind and are controlling hotspots along the line. The fire is 5% contained. At this time there are no structures, infrastructure or cultural values threatened. The fire is located approximately 18 miles north of Safford in Graham County. The lightning-caused fire started on Saturday within the Black Mountains and was originally two separate fires before they merged together on Sunday.
