THATCHER — Some of the pressure on housing in the Gila Valley should be released starting Thursday.

April 16 marks the opening of Towneplace Suites by Marriott.

Towneplace Suites is a 69-unit extended-stay hotel.

“They have kitchenettes,” said General Manager Brittany Hernandez. “They have their own little stove and some are suites and they have ovens, so they can bake and stuff.”

A long-term stay can include dish-washing services and dry cleaning in addition traditional hotel housekeeping services. There is also a gym and complimentary breakfast. Conference facilities are shared with Springhill Suites by Marriott.

Construction of the hotel took about 18 months and has created 24 new jobs.

An open house and Graham County Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting will take place May 12, from 4-7 p.m., and will feature hotel stay giveaways.
