SAFFORD — With area schools not in session on Fridays, the GFWC Woman’s Club of Safford decided to move a Valentine’s tradition up one day.

The Woman’s Club hosted its 18th Valentine’s Dance for those with special needs Thursday at The Venue on Main.

About 60 K-12 students attended the dance in the morning, with the afternoon seeing about half that number of adults served by Blake Foundation and Great Communities Resource Center (GCRC).

“Andy (Richardson, a volunteer from Rotary Club) . . . he comes and I think he just doubles us up. Everybody wants to dance with Andy,” said Woman’s Club organizer Donna McGaughey.

Each participant was presented with a free gift of a stuffed toy, a special photo, light snacks and plenty of dancing.

Henry Jurado enjoys his dance with Donna McGaughey. McGaughey organizes the Valentine’s Dance for those with special needs every year for the GFWC Woman’s Club of Safford.
