SAN SIMON – A two-vehicle collision on Interstate 10 near the New Mexico border killed three people and severely injured at least two others.
The crash occurred at about 5 p.m. Saturday, at milepost 391 in San Simon.
The crash occurred between a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle carrying five people in the westbound lanes.
Three of the passengers in the vehicle were killed and two others were critically injured. The injured were flown to Tucson hospitals and their current condition has not yet been released. Identities of the victims have also not yet been released.
Department of Public Safety said the tractor-trailer’s driver condition was not known at the time of publication.

the crash resulted in the closure of both westbound lanes of I-10 for 11 hours, rerouting traffic on U.S. Highway 70 in Lordsburg, N.M., through Duncan and Safford, and onto U.S. Highway 191 to reconnect with the I-10.
