MORENCI, Ariz. — The Pima Roughriders picked up a big win in a double-overtime thriller against the Morenci Wildcats, 20-14 on Friday night. This victory marks the fourth consecutive win for Pima over Morenci.
Jeremiah Martinez was the standout for Pima, rushing for 182 yards on 28 carries and two crucial touchdowns. His consistency has been a key part of Pima’s success, with this game marking his third straight contest surpassing 139 rushing yards dating back to last season.
Pima’s ground game was dominant throughout, racking up 226 rushing yards on 40 attempts. Wade Peterson added 38 yards on six carries, including a touchdown. The Roughriders have now rushed for at least 199 yards in three consecutive games.
Quarterback Cedrick Grimes went 3-for-8 for 35 yards in the air. Jaxon McBiles made an impact with two receptions for 28 yards, including a 21-yard catch, the longest pass play for Pima on the night.
Defensively, Joe Palmer and Aiden Alder led with 13 and 12 total tackles, respectively. Alder, along with Preston Russell and Brock Haws, contributed to the Roughriders’ 11 tackles for loss, with Haws recording the team’s only sack of the game, resulting in a 15-yard loss for Morenci. Jaxon McBiles also secured an interception.
With this victory, Pima extended its road-winning streak to seven games dating back to last season, improving its record to 2-1. Morenci fell to 2-2.
