THATCHER — Over the past seven days, the councils for Thatcher and Safford matched Pima in declaring April 2-8 the Week of the Young Child.

The Thatcher Town Council adopted the resolution March 21, while the Safford City Council took action March 28. Pima adopted the resolution March 1.

The request for the councils to adopt the resolution came from First Things First, which supports “development, well-being, health and education of all Arizona’s children, birth to age 5,” according to the organization’s mission.

“We certainly appreciate all of the effort put into our young children, knowing they are our future,” said Thatcher Mayor Randy Bryce. “We value that here in the town, the council values that, and are committed to helping in any way that we can.”

To celebrate the week, the Safford City-Graham County Library is hosting a free concert April 7 at the David M. Player Center for the arts, for children birth to pre-kindergarten and their caregivers. Performing will be Latin Grammy winner Mister G, who performs original, multicultural music targeted specifically for young children.
