Thatcher baseball and Safford softball win 3A Play-In games

The #20 Safford Bulldog softball team traveled to #13 Payson on Saturday with a chance to secure a playoff spot in the 3A tournament. Safford ace Faith Hanson gave up just 1 run on 6 hits in a complete game win. She struck out six with no walks enroute to the Dogs 6-1 win.

Ashlyn Schilling had a perfect day at the plate for the Bulldogs. She was 3-3 with a sacrifice bunt and 2 RBI. Jaylenn Jurado was 2-3 and scored 3 runs. Bre Arbizo and Brynlee Hansen both had 2-4 days at the plate.

Safford (20-11) drew the #15 seed in the tournament and will take on #2 Winslow (23-7) on May 3rd in Winslow. Winslow beat Payson 8-7 and 7-5 this season.

Thatcher baseball gave up just 1 hit in a 16-0 five inning win over Window Rock on Saturday in the 3A Baseball play-in round.

Brandon Napier threw 3 innings with 7 strikeouts. Tanner Rios threw the other two unblemished innings for the Eagles.

The Eagle bats exploded for 14 hits. Davis Russell went 3-4 with 2 RBI. Jett Howard was 3-3 with 3 RBI.

The #9 Eagles (23-7) will take on #8 Benjamin Franklin (16-10) on May 3rd in Queen Creek at 6pm.
