According to a recent survey on workplace happiness, employees who make at least $75,000 or more tend to be as happy or happier than the national average among those surveyed. For context, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median weekly salary is about $1,204, or $62,608 yearly.
Happy employees show stark differences outside of work as well: a greater share exercise, have long term relationships, and participate in community groups off the clock.
The survey of 997 full time employees across sectors revealed stark differences both on and off the job between happy and unhappy workers:
- 19% of happy workers are burned out, compared to 84% of unhappy workers
- While 52% overall say AI made their work easier, 20% report it increased their workload
- Employee happiness exceeds the national average at $75,000– nearly $10,000 more than the national average
- Happy workers tend to exercise, participate in community off the job, and have long term relationships
Looking for a sector that inspires happiness? Sectors reporting the highest satisfaction include nonprofits, science/research, and the trades, while the unhappiest are military and first responders, food service industry, and government workers.
