SAFFORD — The Catholic Diocese of Tucson announced Friday that plans are moving forward to open a new school with St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

In a prepared statement, the diocese said school will start with kindergarten to second grades, with plans to add grades up to eighth as enrollment grows.

The school will be located at the St. Rose of Lima Parish, 311 S. Central Ave., where there are already four classrooms established. The fellowship hall will serve as the cafeteria.

Suzanne Ortega has been named the school’s principal. She said the plan is for the school to offer “academic excellence through faith-based learning while utilizing strong research-based curriculum.”

The hope is to start with between 45 and 60 students and the school will open for the 2026-27 school year.

Enrollment for the new school year has started and parents may schedule a tour.
