Softball tourney to benefit area cancer patient

SAFFORD —First responders will be taking take big swings against cancer this weekend.

The fourth annual Strike Out Cancer Co-Ed Softball Tournament is May 14-15, from 5-10 p.m. each day.

“So you have PD (police), EMS, fire, health-care workers out there playing softball,” said Riley Woods. “We raise funds for a local cancer patient. This year it’s for Robert Mendoza, from Greenlee (County).”

The public is invited to watch play, as well as enjoy food from local food trucks and purchase raffle tickets for prizes, with proceeds to benefit Mendoza.

Cost is $200 per team, and tournament sponsorships of Gold ($400), Silver ($300) and Bronze ($100) are available.
