WASHINGTON, D.C. — Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema met with Arizona Head Start parents and Head Start Association members to discuss the importance of early education services for all Arizona children and efforts to expand education opportunities across Arizona.

“Education was my key to success, and I believe every Arizona child deserves access to the same opportunity. I’m grateful to hear from Arizona parents and the Head Start Association about how we can make the American Dream a reality for all Arizona kids,” said Sinema.

In 2021, the Arizona Head Start program employed over 4,700 individuals, served over 13,000 families, and acquired housing for over 100 families experiencing homelessness.

In the meeting Arizona parents who have benefited from the Head Start program detailed to the Senator how the program positively impacted their lives, as well as the various challenges and opportunities facing Arizona’s Head Start program.

Head Start programs provide services that promote school readiness of infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children from low-income families, supporting children’s growth in positive learning environments through different types of services in early learning and development, health, and family well-being. Head Start programs are available at no cost to children ages birth to 5 from low-income families as well as families and children experiencing homelessness.

Last Congress, Sinema secured an additional $4.4 million in Head Start funds for Arizona and tribal communities.
