SIERRA VISTA — April proved to be an economically mixed bag for Willcox.
Southeast Arizona Economic Development Group reported, when adjusted for inflation, retail sales dropped 16.9 percent in Willcox in April, but retail sales remain up 5 percent year-to-date.
Meanwhile, restaurant and bar sales were up 6.9 percent in April, but are down 6.3 percent year-to-date.
And hotel/motel sales were up a whopping 31 percent in April — fueled by the Willcox Wine Country annual spring event — but are down 11.9 percent year-to-date.
Countywide, retail sales were down 4.9 percent in April, restaurant and bar sales up 0.4 percent and hotel/motel sales were flat, with a drop of 0.1 percent.
