Graham County Sheriff’s Office Responds to 20 Incidents
The Graham County Sheriff’s Office responded to 20 incidents between Aug. 31 and the early morning hours of Sept. 1, according to the agency’s latest incident report. Calls included welfare checks, disorderly conduct, traffic stops, a drug-related call, a medical emergency, a utility problem and civil matters.
One of the more unusual calls occurred shortly after 7 a.m. Aug. 31 on East Alvillar Road in the San Jose area. Deputies conducted a welfare check after a resident reported that a 10-year-old boy had repeatedly come to the residence between 3 and 6 a.m. asking for food. The child reportedly said he was homeschooled and had been sleeping in a cotton field behind the residence. The report indicates the child had left approximately 30 minutes before the call.
At about 9:07 a.m., deputies responded to the north side of the Graham County courthouse in response to a report of a disorderly and aggressive man. Security personnel reported that Cory Herrera was in a blue Honda and was acting combative and very aggressive. The man left the area eastbound on U.S. Highway 70, and deputies later received information that courthouse security had video footage of the incident.
A DUI investigation was initiated late Tuesday morning on San Jose Road near U.S. 70. The incident began as a traffic stop and was subsequently classified as a DUI. A blood draw was conducted at approximately 12:40 p.m.
Deputies also responded to Fort Thomas Elementary School Road at approximately 3:30 p.m. for a drug-related call. The report lists THC vapes as the property involved.
A medical call near Wells Road and Stockton Road involved an 11-year-old autistic boy who reportedly broke both arms on a swing. The boy’s mother was driving a white Kia Rio with its hazard lights activated when she contacted authorities. The report states that she declined emergency assistance and planned to transport him herself.
Other calls included a sparking power line on Graham Canal Road, a burglary alarm that was determined to have been caused by building maintenance, a suspicious-person report involving two people allegedly attempting to enter a residence, found property at Roper Lake State Park and several civil and traffic-related calls.
In the early morning hours of Sept. 1, deputies responded to a disorderly-conduct call on Lebanon Loop Road after a woman reported that a cousin was banging on her door and accusing her of trying to kill him. Deputies ultimately detained one person, and the incident was classified as disorderly conduct.
The report also includes a late-night suspicious-person call on 45th Street involving a resident who heard what sounded like something moving in the attic. The resident believed it might have been a small animal.
