Graham County Sheriff’s Office Responds to 16 Incidents
The Graham County Sheriff’s Office handled 16 incidents between Sept. 22 and the morning of Sept. 23, according to the department’s latest incident report. The calls included a DUI, a report of missing children, domestic-violence complaints, identity theft and several citizen-assistance calls.
Among the more significant incidents:
Three children temporarily reported missing: At about 6:18 p.m. Sept. 22, deputies responded to a welfare check after a parent reported that her 9-year-old daughter and two neighboring children, ages 6 and 2, had gone missing while playing outside. Deputies were given descriptions of the children and searched the surrounding area. The children were eventually located on top of a wash behind the residence.
DUI investigation: At approximately 12:07 p.m. Sept. 22, deputies conducted a traffic stop near the Roper Lake Dollar General. The incident was subsequently changed from a traffic stop to a DUI investigation. A blood draw was conducted at approximately 1:18 p.m.
Identity theft report: At about 3:22 p.m., a woman contacted deputies to report that someone had apparently used her credit information to apply for a vehicle in California. The woman requested that a report be taken and indicated that she needed a Spanish-speaking officer.
Domestic dispute: Deputies responded to an address on East Pommel Street shortly after 8:44 p.m. Sept. 22 after a woman reported that her fiancé had locked her and her 15-year-old daughter outside following a verbal argument. The report indicates there were no weapons involved and no alcohol use reported. The woman said she wanted to retrieve her belongings and leave.
Homeless encampment complaint: A citizen contacted deputies about people living in tents in a field near South Gila Avenue and East Third Street. The caller reported trash throughout the area and asked whether the occupants were allowed to be there. A City of Safford representative requested that an officer respond and speak with the people in the area.
Domestic disturbance becomes civil matter: Early Sept. 23, deputies were called to East High Mesa Road for a report of a man and woman yelling during a dispute involving discussion of a baby and an upcoming court matter. The caller disconnected, and deputies were initially unable to make contact. The call was subsequently changed from domestic to civil and then back to domestic.
The remaining calls included serving legal papers, civil standbys, traffic stops, a private-property accident and a citizen requesting assistance after being released from jail. The report lists 16 total incidents for the Sheriff’s Office during the reporting period.
