Safford Police Report: 135 Incidents Logged Over Five-Day Period
The Safford Police Department logged 135 reported incidents during the period from Sept. 17 through the early morning hours of Sept. 22, according to the department’s Law Incident Media Summary Report dated Sept. 22. The calls included traffic incidents, assaults, domestic-violence reports, welfare checks, animal complaints and other disturbances.
Among the more notable incidents were:
School assault: On Sept. 17, police received a report that a male student had been assaulted at a school. The report states the victim was taken for medical evaluation and had facial trauma.
Domestic-violence calls: Officers responded to several domestic-violence-related incidents during the reporting period. One Sept. 17 call involved a report that a man had grabbed someone by the neck and struck him in the head. Another call involved a reported assault between family members.
Sex-offense reports: Police investigated a report early Sept. 18 involving a person who told officers she had been sexually assaulted by her girlfriend. Another sex-offense report was received Sept. 21 involving an allegation concerning a child.
Police pursuit: On Sept. 18, a traffic stop developed into a pursuit after a vehicle failed to yield. Officers requested additional units before the situation was cleared. The report does not provide further details about the outcome.
Unattended death: On Sept. 19, officers responded to a report of an older male who was found unresponsive and not breathing. CPR was initiated at the scene, and additional assistance was requested. The report does not state the eventual outcome.
DUI: A DUI call was reported shortly after 3:30 a.m. Sept. 20.
Domestic-violence call: Early Sept. 21, police responded to a report involving a boyfriend who was accused of having been physically violent with the caller. The report also indicated the man was believed to sometimes carry a knife.
Child medical emergency: On Sept. 21, officers responded to a school after a student struck their head on playground equipment and was reported to have briefly gone in and out of consciousness. The student was awake and breathing when the call was reported.
Vehicle strikes water main: On the evening of Sept. 21, police investigated a report that a white Ford F-150 struck a water main and brick wall before leaving the area. The report lists the vehicle’s Arizona license plate and states that the driver appeared to leave the scene quickly.
Animal complaints: Several calls involved potentially aggressive dogs, including reports of a pit bull mix charging toward children at a school and, later, a pit bull and Rottweiler reportedly running through a neighborhood while barking and growling at people.
The report also documents numerous traffic stops, civil standbys, welfare checks, alarms, trespassing complaints, disorderly-conduct calls and routine community-assistance requests during the five-day period.
