GRAHAM COUNTY — Two law enforcement agencies wound up on the same case, thanks to an Apple app.
Graham County Sheriff’s Office received an automatic notification from the app that its owner was involved in a motor vehicle crash, and a deputy was dispatched to the location.
Meanwhile, Arizona Department of Public Safety was in pursuit of a motorcycle, starting in Greenlee County and making its way to Graham.
During the search for the crash, the deputy discovered the motorcycle abandoned on farmland in the area of Gila Avenue and Clifton Street, and about 50 yards away was a motorcycle jacket, helmet and a backpack.
Dispatch was able to make contact via phone with the owner of the app, who immediately disconnected the call when he realized he was speaking with law enforcement.
The motorcycle was registered to a New Mexico resident and attempts to ping the phone showed a location in Thatcher; however, no trace of the phone or the rider was found.
All information was turned over to DPS to continue the search.
