SAFFORD — The second step in dealing with the issue of housing in Graham County will take place next week.

Southeastern Arizona Governments Organization will host two public workshops to gather input and strategies to address the housing needs in the Gila Valley.

The workshops will take place Wednesday, April 30. The first from noon to 2 p.m. at the Safford Library Annex on Central Avenue, and the second from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Graham County General Services Building.

The housing study is being funded by a grant from United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties, and the goal is to identify at least two areas for possible housing development, which can be used to attract developers.

The first step in the process was an anonymous online survey that concluded April 6.

Based on Graham County’s median income of $67,326 per year, no more than $1,683 should be spent on housing each month, which includes rent/mortgage payments, utilities and other normal household expenses.
