Scammers claiming to be law enforcement fail with Graham County residents

SAFFORD — Two Graham County residents reported being targeted by scammers claiming to be with law enforcement.

Both telephone scams were attempted Friday, Aug. 4, between 1-1:30 p.m.

The first person said the caller claimed to be with U.S. Border and Customs Patrol, and were informing the potential victim that he was sent a package of drugs. The man told the scammer he refused to give any personal information, hung up and immediately contacted Graham County Sheriff’s Office to report the attempted scam.

The second scammer was a woman who claimed to be with the Graham County Sheriff’s Office’s “Printing Department.” Again, the potential victim immediately hung up and contacted the real Sheriff’s Office to report the call.

Anyone receiving unsolicited contact about any situation requiring the sending of money or sharing of financial information should disconnect immediately and contact local law enforcement.
