Safford’s free Household Hazardous Waste Dump Day is April 26

SAFFORD — The City of Safford announced Tuesday it is hosting a day for residents to dispose of household hazardous waste without cost.

The free Household Hazardous Waste Dump will take place Saturday, April 26, from 8 a.m. to noon, at the city’s Public Works yard on Discovery Park Boulevard, across from the Safford Cemetery.

The event is available to Safford residential trash customers only, and to gain entry residents must show a photo I.D. and a copy of a Safford Utility bill showing trash service.

CleanHarbors will conduct the collection and removal of the discarded items. Accepted items include:

  • Adhesives, including caulk, putty and sealers
  • Oil and latex paint
  • Paint thinners and strippers
  • Stains
  • Engine degreasers
  • Motor oil
  • Brake and transmission fluids
  • Kerosene and gasoline
  • Insecticides, pesticides, weed killers and fertilizers
  • Swimming pool chemicals
  • Household cleaners
  • Straight fluorescent tubes
  • Equipment with mercury

Items that will not be accepted include:

  • Batteries
  • Tires
  • Propane and compressed gas cylinders
  • Computers and electronic equipment
  • Ammunition, fireworks and other explosives
  • Infectious and biological waste
  • Radioactive materials

Prescription medications and syringes will also not be accepted, but can be disposed of for free at the annual Dump the Drugs event also taking place Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the parking lot of the Home Depot in Thatcher.
