SAFFORD — The City of Safford posted notice on its website Thursday it is accepting applications for the job of Chief of Police.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED; bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; be a certified police officer with at least 10 years experience in law enforcement, with at least three of those years in at the command level or above; have a clear criminal record; and have a valid Arizona driver’s license.

The salary range for the position is $105,000 to $129,000 annually. The position will remain open until filled.

Current Chief Glen Orr informed the City Council late last year of his intention to retire. He’s expected to remain in the position no later than May.

Orr was promoted to Chief in May 2020, following the retirement of Joe Brugman. Orr is a 15-year veteran of the Safford Police Department, and prior to joining Safford Police, he worked 13 years as a Graham County Sheriff’s deputy and detective sergeant.
