Safford PD foils potential kidnapping

SAFFORD — A Safford Police officer was able to stop a possible kidnapping Monday.

According to reports, a man called in that his sister had been taken at gunpoint by the suspect, identified as Joshua Graves. The brother claimed Graves was taking his sister to Mexico against her will.

The Safford officer found Graves’ vehicle traveling near Klondyke Road and U.S. Highway 70, and conducted a traffic stop. Drawing his weapon, he had Graves exit the vehicle and lie face down until backup could arrive and place Graves in handcuffs.

Graves reportedly denied the kidnapping charge and officers did not report of a weapon being found in the vehicle.

Graves was taken into custody without incident.
