SAFFORD — Safford Police are giving the public a chance to see what law enforcement is all about.

Safford’s Citizens Police Academy will offer residents from throughout the Gila Valley a chance to learn what law enforcement officers do.

“This program is one of our favorite ways to connect with citizens, build trust, and foster stronger partnerships with the people we proudly serve,” Police officials said in a posting on social media.

Applicants must 18 or older, with no felony convictions and able to pass a background check. Applicants will not be considered if they have any pending action involving a law enforcement agency, have a known criminal history, have active warrants, or are subject to a protective order.

The Citizens Police Academy will take place every Tuesday, starting Sept. 16, and run through Oct. 21.

There is no cost to participate. Applications can be picked up at the Safford Police Department,

523 S. 10th Ave., and will be accepted through Sept. 11
