Safford jumps 10 spots in latest AIA Rankings

The Safford Bulldogs are smack dab in the middle of a dream season. It may have started as a nightmare after an 0-3 start but the Dogs have won 3 straight and find themselves as the #9 team in the State in the latest rankings.

Safford (3-3) topped previous #9 Sahuarita 33-22 to make the jump from #19. Safford plays Catalina (1-5) and Tanque Verde (1-4) the next two weeks and could find themselves nearing the top 5 after those two games. It isn’t out of the realm of the possible that Safford rolls off 7 straight wins to to end the regular season.

The Thatcher Eagles (7-0) remained atop the 2A for the 2nd strait week after their dominate performance against Pima (3-3). Pima dropped from #7 to #9 after the loss.

Morenci remained at #4 after a 39-6 win over Cobre NM. The Wildcats lone loss was in Week 1 to Thatcher, the 15-0 score was the closest anybody has played the Eagles this season.

Fort Thomas picked up a big 22-6 win over Duncan and clinched the 1A South Championship. Their game with Bowie/San Simon was cancelled this week. They will finished their game with Salome on Wednesday night in Chandler. The Apaches trail in the 3rd quarter when that game resumes.
