SAFFORD — Hometown Market is going big this weekend.

“Normally we have it at The Venue on Main Street, and so that’s where we’re going to have this market again. But this time, we’re going to be closing down two blocks right in front of The Venue, so that we can provide more space for all these vendors that we want to incorporate,” said Hometown Market’s Emma McBride.

In addition to an expansion of the number of home-based businesses showing their wares, Saturday’s event will feature Code 4 First Aid conducting a tribute to first responders, as part of the 20th anniversary remembrance of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

“We do have Zaylie Windsor coming to sing for us, and we are planning to have some public authority speakers,” said Code 4’s Jacob Carrell.

Rounding out the larger event will be about a dozen local food producers to create a Gila Valley Food Coalition farmer’s market within the event.

“We are going to have the biggest market we’ve ever had. We have over 50 vendors and it’s going to be so good,” said Hometown Market’s Heather Black.

The event on the 400 and 500 blocks of Safford’s Main Street will being with the 9/11 tribute at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, with the market opening at 10 a.m.
