Safford Airshow Draws Thousands for a Day of High-Flying Action, Vintage Aircraft, and Thrilling Aerobatics

SAFFORD, AZ — The skies over Safford dazzled on Saturday, November 9, as the Safford Regional Airport hosted the annual Safford Airshow, drawing an estimated 2,300 aviation enthusiasts, families, and community members. This thrilling aerial event showcased a stunning variety of aircraft performances, interactive displays, and opportunities for attendees to explore aviation up close, making for an unforgettable experience.

The show’s lineup included high-flying aerobatics and precise aerial maneuvers performed by top pilots. Anthony Oshingua thrilled audiences in the Pitts Special, Alfred Maldonado showcased the Fouga Magister, and Torrey Ward captivated with the SubSonex Microjet. Erik Swanson and Dan Kirkland demonstrated remarkable skill with T-6 and T-28 aerobatics. The Desert Rats CJ-6 Formation Team delivered a breathtaking synchronized performance, and Mike Rutledge honored aviation history with his FM2 Wildcat demonstration. A parachute demonstration rounded out the airshow’s airborne attractions, delighting spectators with a dazzling flag presentation to begin the event.

In addition to the aerial performances, the airshow offered extensive ground displays featuring both vintage and modern aircraft. Highlights included PB4Y Privateer, and USAF U-28 Drago, along with privately owned warbirds. The SOCOM C-27J added a touch of military presence, while the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation gave attendees a chance to ride in the iconic UH-1 Huey and AH-1 Cobra, creating a memorable and immersive experience in aviation history.
