SAFFORD — During an appearance on “Voice of the Valley” on KATO AM 1230 Thursday, Safford City Manager John Cassella said the industrial park at the Safford Airport will soon have its second tenant.

“There’s a very strong focus on trying to bring businesses out to the airport, and the best way to do that is to go out into the world and say, ‘Hey, Safford’s here,’ and present that information,” Cassella said.

Airport Manager Cameron Atkins confirmed the city is in the process of negotiating the lease with BF Goodrich for construction of a facility on a 4-acre lot in the industrial park.

The company, which will be relocating from its current location on Bryce-Eden Road near the entrance to Freeport-McMoRan’s Safford mining operation, will use the new facility to repair haul truck tires and other commercial tire operations.

Atkins said the effort to find more tenants continues.

“We’ve got two and we’re actively looking more,” he said.

In August 2023, Ponderosa Metal Works signed on as the first tenant of the Safford Airport Industrial Park.
