CLIFTON — The Gila Watershed Partnership and Greenlee Tourism Association are partnering for a big kick-off to summer.
GWP will conduct its quarterly San Francisco River Cleanup on Saturday, June 1, starting with a meeting at Riverside Park in Clifton at 7:30 a.m.
“We may go upriver, but we probably will also go, like we did last year, downriver into town to involve people who are walking on the trails and that type of thing in the cleanup,” said Dr. Sarah Sayles, executive director for GWP.
Once the cleanup is finished, around noon, there will be a quick lunch donated by the Clifton Hotel and Bar, and at 1 p.m. the Greenlee Tourism Association will drop thousands of plastic ducks into the river under the Zorrilla Bridge, for the fourth annual Big Quack Duck Race.
The finish line is where the river reaches the Railroad Bridge, near the floodgates.
Ducks can be purchased one for $10, three for $25, seven for $50 and 15 for $100.
The first duck to cross the finish line will net its owner $300, with $200 for second and $100 for third. There will also be a prize for the last duck to finish.
